CTBE Director Prof. Kai-Lung Hui Visited HKUST(GZ) Function Hub and Greater Bay Area Technology Enterprises

On 26 June 2026, Prof. Kai-Lung Hui, Associate Provost (Academic Development) of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Director of the Center for Technology and Business Ecosystem (CTBE), together with Prof. Zhaoli Meng, Associate Director of CTBE, conducted a visit to the HKUST(GZ) Function Hub and three technology enterprises in the Greater Bay Area: Guangzhou Kaijia Optical Technology Co., Ltd., Guangdong Huanbo New Materials Co., Ltd., and Shenzhen Huake Chuangzhi Technology Co., Ltd.

On 26 June 2026, Prof. Kai-Lung Hui, Associate Provost (Academic Development) of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Director of the Center for Technology and Business Ecosystem (CTBE), together with Prof. Zhaoli Meng, Associate Director of CTBE, conducted a visit to the HKUST(GZ) Function Hub and three technology enterprises in the Greater Bay Area: Guangzhou Kaijia Optical Technology Co., Ltd., Guangdong Huanbo New Materials Co., Ltd., and Shenzhen Huake Chuangzhi Technology Co., Ltd.

The delegation first visited the HKUST(GZ) Function Hub and met with Professor Weijia Wen, Dean of the Function Hub and Chair Professor of HKUST; Ms. Mujun Yang, Co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of Mogan Technology; and Dr. Xiao Luo. During the discussion, participants exchanged views on frontier technology innovation, entrepreneurship, research commercialization, and ecosystem development. They also explored opportunities for stronger collaboration within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, leveraging complementary strengths in research resources, industrial networks, and international connections.

The delegation then visited Guangzhou Kaijia Optical Technology Co., Ltd., where they learned about the company’s activities in biomedical imaging, industrial inspection, and optoelectronic instrumentation. Company representatives introduced their development journey from research and development to engineering and commercialization, offering insights into the growth of technology-intensive enterprises. Discussions focused on advanced manufacturing, technological innovation, and pathways for scaling deep-tech ventures.

Prof.Hui and Prof. Meng later visited Guangdong Huanbo New Materials Co., Ltd. and met with Dr. Chuandeng Hu, Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. Shanshan Li, Chief Operating Officer. The delegation also visited the company’s Songshan Lake industry-research center. The exchange focused on innovation ecosystem development, industry-academia collaboration, technology transfer, and the future growth of advanced materials companies. Participants also discussed how universities, research institutions, and enterprises can build more effective cooperation mechanisms.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited Shenzhen Huake Chuangzhi Technology Co., Ltd. and met with Mr. Dongxu Yu, Chairman of the Board; Ms. Yiyi Gao, President; and Mr. Xiaoguang Zhou, Finance Director. The company shared its experience in advanced materials innovation and emerging applications across multiple technology sectors. The discussion covered innovation-driven industrial upgrading, enterprise growth pathways, and future opportunities arising from the convergence of artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and new materials technologies.

The visit further strengthened the relationship between CTBE, HKUST(GZ), innovation platforms, and technology enterprises across the Greater Bay Area. Looking forward, CTBE will continue to serve as a bridge connecting academia, industry, and entrepreneurial ecosystems. Through research, thought leadership, and stakeholder engagement, the Center aims to support technology commercialization, deep-tech venture growth, and regional innovation ecosystem development.
